LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KATV) — A blessing box at the Moose Lodge in Sherwood is providing essential items to families and individuals facing financial difficulties. The initiative, which began as a response to the loss of government assistance and job losses affecting many Arkansans, has grown into a collaborative effort involving the Moose Lodge, bingo workers, and others. The box offers non-perishable food, toiletries, dog food, and baby formula, which is in high demand.
Misty Hancock, the bingo manager at the Moose Lodge, said, “We knew we had to step into action quickly. And so that same day, we got approval from our board of officers to put up the blessing box, and it would just be the bingo workers at the time were going to be the ones to fill it and make sure it was taken care of, but now it’s became a whole Moose Lodge thing. It’s everybody’s baby.”
Hancock noted the unexpected costs of maintaining the box, stating, “We did not expect the amount of money it was going to cost to run it for one week. We were into the 1000s of dollars to make sure that it was filled several times a day. So we really need our community. If they can come and donate even a box of cereal, it would help tremendously. Hard times happen to everybody. We choose kindness and we give grace here, and that is always been our motto. For the 20 years I’ve been here.”…
