Thousands of Kent County homes could renovate, expand under new proposed changes

WYOMING, MI – Wyoming city officials are discussing new zoning changes that would allow renovations, expansions and new additions to thousands of homes that are restricted from doing so by current city code.

Approximately 9,300 homes in Wyoming would be impacted by the proposed zoning changes, said Nicole Hofert, the city’s director of community and economic development.

The proposal would change or eliminate current rules preventing homes in the city’s R-2 and R-3 residential zoning designation – which are all mostly located north of 44th Street and east of U.S. 131 – from being renovated, building new additions, adding accessory structures, or splitting up their lots…
