MAWSS Responds to Sewer Overflow on Richmond Drive; Residents Urged to Avoid Hamilton Creek

On November 13, 2025, the Mobile Area Water & Sewer System (MAWSS) responded to a sanitary sewer overflow at 2910 Richmond Drive in Mobile, Alabama. The overflow was caused by a grease blockage. About 3,680 gallons of wastewater entered Hamilton Creek. MAWSS crews have cleared the blockage and are taking steps to prevent future incidents at this location.

Dr. Kevin Michaels, Mobile County Health Officer, advises residents to avoid contact with standing water in the area. He also recommends washing hands and clothing if exposed to untreated sewage. Residents should use caution when using Hamilton Creek for recreation and ensure seafood from the area is thoroughly cooked.
