Elk Grove Man Indicted on Federal Firearm Charges, Faces Up to 15 Years

A Sacramento man is facing federal charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The U.S. Attorney’s Office reports that a federal grand jury has indicted Cornelius Houston, 34, from Elk Grove. According to documents from the court, on August 15, Houston was found in possession of a loaded Glock handgun, and on October 7, another Glock was in his possession.

The Elk Grove resident has prior felony convictions for robbery and the transportation, sale, or distribution of a controlled substance, which under the law, bars him from owning or possessing firearms and ammunition. Running the investigation, the Sacramento Police Department, along with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, worked on the case that led to Houston’s charges.

If Houston is convicted on these new charges, he could face up to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
