A nonprofit that operates farmers markets around the region is evaluating whether additional safety measures regarding pets are needed following a Nov. 8 fight between two dogs that resulted in the death of one near its downtown Silver Spring farmers market.
FRESHFARM was “heartbroken” by the deadly attack that occurred “outside of the permitted space of the Downtown Silver Spring farmers market,” the Washington, D.C., nonprofit said Friday in a statement to Bethesda Today.
FRESHFARM operates 26 markets in the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., region throughout the year and the Silver Spring market is held weekly on Saturdays at 1 Veterans Place. According to the nonprofit’s FAQ page, “well-behaved dogs are welcome at most” FRESHFARM markets.
