Austin-area bike, pedestrian projects awarded $13.7 million

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A surge of more than $284.8 million for bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure is coming for Texans across the state, including more than $13.7 million for projects in the Austin area.

The Texas Transportation Commission approved the money to improve safety, mobility and access, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

The funds stem from the federal Transportation Alternatives program and will go toward 73 projects in Texas, including the construction of sidewalks, shared-use paths for biking and walking, dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian bridges…
