New Orleans Advances with Pedestrian Safety and Roadway Upgrades: Broad Street Beacon and Morrison Road Project Underway

The city of New Orleans is laying the groundwork for increased mobility and enhanced safety on its streets, forging ahead with projects designed with an eye for every type of commuter. According to a recent update from the Department of Public Works, these initiatives include the introduction of a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon and significant roadway improvements that promise to not only better connect communities but also to calm traffic and encourage multimodal transport.

Activating safety measures on Broad Street, DPW has declared the pedestrian hybrid beacon operational at the Lafitte Greenway intersection. This beacon is a feature of the Broad Street Pedestrian Improvement Project, which reaches its completion with the final construction phase now at an end. One can expect to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 20 to ceremoniously cap the project. On the other side of the city, the Morrison Road Improvement project, with a budget of $23.6 million and the backing of both federal and local funds, aims to transform Morrison Road between Mayo Boulevard and Bullard Avenue.
