Two classified school employees in Nevada have received the Nevada Recognizing Inspiring School Employees (RISE) Award. Amber Bass, a nutrition services employee from the Washoe County School District, and Charlotte Blake, a bookkeeper at Doral Academy of Northern Nevada, were named as this year’s recipients. The announcement took place in Carson City. Governor Joe Lombardo acknowledged both winners for their work with students and their contributions to school communities in the state.
The RISE Award was created by the U.S. Congress in 2019 and is managed by the U.S. Department of Education. It recognizes classified school employees who provide important services to students. The program aims to highlight the roles these employees play in supporting schools and student achievement. Dr. Victor Wakefield, Nevada’s Superintendent of Public Instruction, noted Bass and Blake’s dedication and described them as examples for other employees.
Amber Bass has worked in the Washoe County School District’s central nutrition services kitchen since 2006. She prepares meals and coordinates meal plans for about 70 students with allergies or special dietary needs.
