Senator John Fetterman Returns Home After Fall, Addresses Health Concerns
PITTSBURGH, PA – Senator John Fetterman, D-Pa., has been discharged from a Pittsburgh hospital and is back home following a fall last week during his morning walk. The incident, which resulted in a laceration requiring 20 stitches, was attributed to a ventricular fibrillation flare-up.
Senator Fetterman shared his recovery on social media, posting a selfie showing a visible cut extending across his forehead and nose. “20 stitches later and a full recovery, I’m back home with @giselefetterman and the kids,” he wrote, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of well-wishes and the medical care received at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).
A spokesperson for the Senator stated that he fell near his Braddock home and was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. “Upon evaluation, it was established he had a ventricular fibrillation flare-up that led to Senator Fetterman feeling light-headed, falling to the ground and hitting his face with minor injuries,” the statement clarified. Doctors reportedly kept the Senator overnight to adjust his medication.
This recent incident is another in a series of health challenges for Senator Fetterman. He suffered a near-fatal stroke during his 2022 Senate campaign, after which he was fitted with a defibrillator-equipped pacemaker. The stroke notably affected his speech, which became slower and more deliberate on the campaign trail.
Following the intense 2022 campaign, Senator Fetterman publicly discussed the toll it took on his physical and mental health. In 2023, he sought treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Earlier this year, reports surfaced from staff members regarding concerns about his behavior and fitness to serve, which the Senator has continued to address.
