Several residents evacuated, 2 displaced after fire breaks out at Columbia apartment

COLUMBIA, Md. (DC News Now) — Several residents were evacuated and two people are without a home after a fire broke out at an apartment building in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

The Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services said firefighters responded to the apartment fire in the 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road just after 12:15 p.m. There, crews reported finding an appliance fire in a first-floor apartment.

Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control in about four minutes, officials noted. Meanwhile, crews used ground ladders to help evacuate residents from the building.
