The Carmel Fire Department has expanded its team with the addition of Firefighter–Paramedic Kate Heishman, who brings nine years of experience in fire service. Her career has included roles with the Wayne Township Fire Department, Indianapolis International Airport Fire Department, and the Ellettsville Fire Department. A Facebook post on the Carmel Fire Department’s Facebook page notes that her background spans urban, rural, and specialized fire operations, providing a broad range of experience to support the Carmel community.
Heishman holds technician-level certifications in hazmat, rope rescue, confined space rescue, swift water and top water rescue, as well as aircraft firefighting. She is also trained in canine search and rescue and owns two working K9s, in addition to a mini Australian Shepherd and three horses.
