CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An Amber alert has been canceled after police said they found a 10-month-old girl who was believed to be taken by a distant family member and her boyfriend, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
At 8:15 a.m. on Sunday, CMPD said 10-year-old Nalaya Crew was found, and the suspects, 19-year-old Michelle Hemphill and her boyfriend, 23-year-old Timothy Lee Smith, have been arrested.
Around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, investigators got the call about the reported abduction of Crew. Police say Crew was abducted by Hemphill, who is a distant family member, and her boyfriend, Smith.
Crew’s family believes she was in danger with Hemphill, who is currently homeless and “has no means” to provide for her. CMPD says Hemphill was last seen getting into a blue minivan believed to be driven by Smith near the 6600 block of Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte…
