Historic church closes down after 110 years of serving Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — For one last Sunday worship, church members filled the pews at Cramer & Hanover Church of Christ.

The church was home to hundreds of Lexington churchgoers for 110 years. But since the COVID-19 pandemic and the death of its pastor, Bennie Hill, church attendance had dwindled to about 15 regular members.

“‘It’s bittersweet,’ everybody says. I’m not sure what that term means, but we hate to have to close. But we look back at the legacy, and we’ve been able to celebrate a lot of the legacy of the church in the past few weeks,” church treasurer Tim Smith said.
