Ravenna police chief asks City Council for more officers

Ravenna’s new police chief has made the case to add more police officers, calling the force’s current number a safety issue.

Ravenna City Council’s Health and Safety Committee agreed to move forward with the request to add three officers along with a second school resource officer, which would be funded by Ravenna School District.

Chief Jason “Jake” Smallfield said he’s making the request now because 30 cadets will graduate from the police academy in February, and most of them already have been claimed by other area departments…
