Memphis man arrested in stolen valor investigation

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man is in jail facing felony charges for impersonating a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, after submitting documents to the VA hospital claiming to have been enlisted in the Air Force for several years, according to police records.

Police arrested 30-year-old Damien Flowers on Sunday, Nov. 16 after an investigation involving the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, and the Memphis Police Economic Crimes Bureau.

According to police records, a VA criminal investigator advised officials on Oct. 24 that Flowers submitted falsified documents to the Memphis VA Medical Center on Aug. 13 claiming to be enlisted in the Air force from June 2015 through March 2024.

The investigator ran Flowers’ criminal history and found multiple arrests during the period he said he was serving in the Air Force — records show four arrests by Southaven Police in 2015, 2020, 2022, and 2023 and one arrest by Olive Branch Police in 2020…
