Local Muchachos restaurant offers free food during SNAP cuts

A local Lincoln restaurant, Muchachos, hosted a food drive and provided free food to help members of the Lincoln community who were affected by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program being paused during the government shutdown.

The initiative was shared by Muchachos owner, Nick Maestas, in a Facebook post on Oct. 29. In the post, Maestas said they were going to support their community through two initiatives at their restaurant: Muchachos’ Lil Pantry and SNAPadillas, free quesadillas that customers can order in-restaurant.

“There’s no need to feel ashamed or feel like you’re taking advantage of anything,” Maestas said. “Anyone who needs a free meal, we’re not going to ask any questions.”…
