Today in History – Nov. 16: Cornerstone laid for Omaha Central High School

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – On this day in 1900, the cornerstone was laid for what is now Omaha Central High School.

The school’s roots go back to 1859 when the high school was built around an older structure. The older building was torn down in 1970 to form the school’s courtyard.

In 1897, overcrowding and necessary upgrades prompted work on a new, larger building. Work was completed one side at a time over 12 years…
