Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office celebrates 4-legged team member’s 4th birthday

DENVER (KDVR) — A team member with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office celebrated her 32nd birthday on Saturday — well, in dog years.

The sheriff’s office said their very own K-9 Lucca, a Dutch shepherd, turned 4 years old Saturday.

According to the sheriff’s office, Lucca is one of the few K-9s in Colorado or across the country trained in electronics detection in order to find cell phones, thumb drives, SIM cards and hard drives during an investigation.

Lucca is one of several canines part of the agency’s K-9 unit, which includes German Shepherds that are trained to detect narcotics and a Belgian Shepherd trained to find explosives, according to the sheriff’s office website.

“She can launch herself over obstacles with the kind of airtime that makes superheroes jealous and will chase a ball much longer than her handler can throw it,” said the sheriff’s office on X…
