HONOLULU (KHON2) – The Nānākuli community came together this afternoon, Nov. 16, to support the family of 19-year-old Tehya Mahelona, who was hit and killed while crossing the street on her way to work on Oct. 28.

The incident happened on the morning of Oct. 28 at around 4:40 a.m., when 19-year-old Tehya Mahelona was walking to work on a marked crosswalk and a 22-year-old woman who was driving on the highway hit a 37-year-old male driver while merging.
The 37-year-old man lost control of his vehicle as a result and hit two female pedestrians, 19 and 42, who were crossing the street in a crosswalk, HPD said.
The male driver and 42-year-old pedestrian were taken to the hospital in serious condition and the 19-year-old was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where she later died. The 22-year-old female driver remained at the scene and was uninjured during the accident, investigators said.
