AUGUSTA, Ga. — A sluggish start proved too much for the Barton College women’s basketball team to overcome Saturday afternoon, Nov. 15, as the Bulldogs dropped a 67-63 decision to Augusta University in the second day of the Conference Challenge at Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Barton (0-2) fell behind 19-6 after the first quarter and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to claw back. Although the Bulldogs steadily chipped away—outscoring Augusta in each of the final three periods—the early deficit and Augusta’s edge on the glass kept the hosts in control.
Sophomore guard Layne Sleight carried the Bulldogs with a game-high 22 points, knocking down three 3-pointers and converting 7 of 8 at the foul line. Her scoring outburst helped Barton pull within single digits by halftime and again late in the fourth quarter, but Augusta consistently answered to prevent a full comeback…
