Vermont man dies months after quarry assault; case now a homicide

WEST PAWLET, Vt. (WRGB) — A Vermont man has died at an Albany hospital, several months after an attack at a West Pawlet quarry.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Aug. 24, Vermont State Police were called to the Newmont Slate Quarry for a report of a suspicious incident. When they arrived, they found Mark Ray of West Pawlet had been transported from the scene by medical responders. Ray, then 53, was later taken to Albany Medical Center with what troopers were told were life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary investigation conducted by state police detectives determined Ray’s injuries were likely the result of an assault, and sought information from the public about the incident…
