‘My back pay?’: Mom of 7 still donates plasma despite government shutdown end

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Two weeks ago, we brought you the story of a Fresno federal worker, and mom of seven, who was donating plasma for money during the government shutdown. Monica Haydostian said she rests easy knowing that she still has her job as a tax examiner. But what she doesn’t know is exactly when she will receive her back pay.

Fresno mom of 7 says she’s donating plasma after being furloughed

“My manager has a big group text with all of us. And, you know, the message came through the group text that the shutdown was over, which was, you know, pretty late Wednesday night,” Haydostian said, while recalling the night the shutdown ended after 43 days. “My first question was, what about my back pay?”

Haydostian was furloughed from her job on Oct. 8. Now, she’s waiting for three paychecks’ worth of back pay.

“There hasn’t been a clear indication of when it’s going to happen, just that it’s going to happen. They said, you know, it could be as early as 24 to 48 hours, but that didn’t happen,” Haydostian said…
