Capital Wing Wars announces winners of 20th competition

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– The 20th annual Capital Wing Wars, a fundraiser benefiting St. Jude the Apostle School in Wynantskill kicked off Saturday. Similar to years prior, two categories were up for grabs this year, with 20 restaurants and businesses vying for the title of best in the “blind taste test” and “the people’s choice award.”

On Sunday, the Capital Wing Wars announced the winners:

Blind Taste Test Category:

  1. Brown’s Brewing Company— “Huli Huli” Hawaiian themed, smoked with a hint of pineapple and savory BBQ sauce
  2. Mazzone Hospitality— “Dill Pickle Wing” tangy and dilly
  3. The Babbling Brook— “Hilltop Stinger” a sweet, tangy and savory blend with a hint of heat

The Black Bear Inn and the Illusive Bar tied for fourth place in the blind taste category.

The People’s Choice Award:

  1. Black Bear Inn— “Smoked Whiskey Wing” with a Habanero and bacon jam
  2. Ralph’s Tavern— “Whiskey Bourbon Glaze”
  3. Illusive Bar— “Black Butter Parm”

According to organizer John Dalmata, all money raised during the Wing Wars go toward a tuition assistance program at the school.

“It helps underprivileged students or students who want a catholic education who may not be able to afford it get that education through scholarships and awards,” Dalmata said…
