Austin City Councilmembers to host budget listening session Monday night

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin City Councilmembers said they’ll host a community listening session Monday night to receive feedback on the city’s revised budget after voters overwhelmingly said no to a property tax rate hike under Proposition Q.

Shortly after the election, city staff sent an amended budget proposal to council that no longer includes the $109 million in additional property tax revenue that would have been generated by Prop Q.

Mayor Pro Tem Vanessa Fuentes, District 3 Councilmember José Velásquez and District 7 Councilmember Mike Siegel will co-host the session.

“The event invites the public to engage with elected officials about Austin’s new revised budget and process following the failure of Proposition Q. Councilmembers will take questions from residents and a variety of community organizations with the aim of achieving a more equitable city budget,” a city spokesperson said in a release…
