Council Bluffs Man Arrested After Deadly Crash That Killed 17-Year-Old Hayden Baker

COUNCIL BLUFFS – A Council Bluffs man accused in a deadly hit-and-run motorcycle crash that killed 17-year-old Hayden Baker has been arrested, police announced Monday. Jason Lee Evans, 52, turned himself in Friday afternoon and was booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail.

According to the Council Bluffs Police Department, Evans is charged with Homicide by Vehicle/OWI, a Class B felony, and Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash, a Class C felony. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison. Court records did not yet show whether bond had been set or when his initial appearance would take place.

Investigators say toxicology results revealed Evans’ blood-alcohol level was almost four times the legal limit, and he also had marijuana in his system on the night of the crash.

The collision happened on October 18, as 17-year-old Hayden Baker was riding his motorcycle to pick up his mother from work. Police say Evans’ pickup truck rear-ended Hayden and fled the scene.
