Portland Police Maintain Order During ICE Building Protest, No Arrests Made

The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) was on alert yesterday evening as they monitored a gathering near the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) building in the South Waterfront area of Portland. According to a statement on the city’s official website, PPB deployed their Rapid Response Team (RRT) and Dialogue Liaison Officers (DLOs), who are sworn officers equipped with arrest powers to ideally foster communication rather than conflict.

Throughout the evening, officers were positioned strategically, ensuring no altercations or unlawful activities disrupted the peace. Despite the presence of law enforcement, the PPB has reported that no arrests have been necessary to maintain order. Yet, it is significant to note that the PPB has made a total of 67 arrests connected to the nightly protests in the South Waterfront up until now. The PPB’s stance on immigration enforcement remains unchanged; they do not engage in it, as reaffirmed in PPB Directive 810.10, their focus remains on public safety and the enforcement of state laws.
