Suspect admits to strangling man during fight in Over-the-Rhine and is sentenced

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – A man charged with murder in a strangulation death two years ago in Over-the-Rhine pleaded guilty Monday to a lesser charge.

Lavontez Davis pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the killing of Jason McKinnon after prosecutors had originally sought murder charges.

McKinnon and his wife were walking in Over-the-Rhine after attending an FC Cincinnati game when they noticed a food delivery driver going the wrong way. They flagged her down, leading to an altercation. Davis emerged from a nearby business and a fight ensued.

Prosecutors said Davis put McKinnon in a stranglehold and did not let go for several minutes. McKinnon died four days later from his injuries. Police arrested Davis a few days after the incident…
