WARN notices in Tennessee have increased by 12% since 2024

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — There’s been a rise in layoffs in Tennessee. The number of people who lost their jobs increased by 12% compared to last year.

When a company plans a mass layoff or plant closing, federal law requires a 60-day written warning called a WARN Notice. This year, Rutherford County has seen the highest number of those WARN notices in Middle Tennessee with 1,411 so far, according to the state.

“Because Tennessee has a large footprint in manufacturing, logistics and corporate services, these sectors are the ones that are most sensitive to interest rates and demand shifts,” Associate Professor at Tennessee State University Dr. Fadi Fawaz explained.
