Ford Drives Onto Amazon: Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles Now Available Online
Good news for car shoppers! Ford is teaming up with Amazon to make buying a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle even easier. Starting this week, customers can browse and purchase CPO Ford vehicles directly through Amazon, with the convenience of securing financing and scheduling pick-up all from their computer or phone.
This new program allows customers to kickstart the car-buying process online, handling financing and most paperwork before ever stepping foot in a dealership. While a final signature may still require an in-person visit, the bulk of the transaction can be completed digitally.
This move follows Amazon’s initial foray into online car sales two years ago, when it partnered with South Korean automaker Hyundai for new vehicle sales. Ford’s collaboration, however, focuses specifically on CPO vehicles. These aren’t just any used cars; CPO vehicles undergo rigorous inspections, refurbishment, and are backed by manufacturer or dealer warranties, offering a higher quality used car option similar to a new vehicle.
More than 160 of Ford’s 2,900 U.S. retailers have expressed interest in participating, with a dozen already fully onboarded and selling vehicles through Amazon Autos. An additional ten dealerships are expected to launch next week.
Fan Jin, global leader of Amazon Autos, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “The addition of Ford certified pre-owned vehicles to Amazon Autos represents an exciting expansion of our store, giving customers access to thousands of quality vehicles backed by Ford’s comprehensive inspection and warranty programs.”
Ford is sweetening the deal by offering a 14-day or 1,000-mile money-back guarantee on vehicles purchased through Amazon, whichever comes first. Customers will also have access to three different CPO certification levels, each with varying warranty coverages.
Currently, Ford CPO vehicles are available on Amazon Autos in Los Angeles, Seattle, and Dallas, with plans for expansion into additional cities in the coming months. It’s important to note that even with this online integration, the franchised Ford dealer remains the ultimate seller, maintaining the traditional automotive retail model.
