BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Community members are coming together to host turkey giveaways and other events to help families in need celebrate Thanksgiving.
The following events are happening in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas:
Saturday, Nov. 22
- TURKEY GIVEAWAY: Faith Baptist Spiritual Church in Zachary is hosting its annual turkey giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 22. It starts at 11 a.m. at the church, which is located at 4450 Mills Street in Zachary. Organizers say 100 turkeys will be given away to ‘local’ families first-come, first-served. Limit 1 turkey per vehicle.
Tuesday, Nov. 25
- TURKEY GIVEAWAY: Jimmy Swaggart Ministries is partnering with Ralph’s Supermarket to host ‘Community Blessing Day: 1000 Turkey Giveaway’ on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 8-11 a.m. It is happening on the Family Worship Center Campus, which is located off Bluebonnet Boulevard at 8919 World Ministry Avenue. Organizers say 1,000 free turkeys will be given to families in the greater Baton Rouge area who were impacted by recent SNAP delays. Pre-registration is required and can be found on the website. Participants will be assigned a specific pickup time, and they must bring their SNAP card.
- THANKSGIVING MEAL GIVEAWAY: Councilwoman Twahna P. Harris is hosting a Thanksgiving turkey and trimmings giveaway for District 7 on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The giveaway is happening from noon until 2 p.m. at the MLK Community Center, located at 4000 Gus Young Avenue in Baton Rouge. Registration is required and can be done at the MLK Community Center from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The last day to register is Monday, Nov. 17. The event is limited to District 7 residents only. Proof of residency and ID is required.

- FOOD VOUCHERS: The Life Share Blood Center is giving $15 vouchers toward ham or turkey and a free long-sleeve shirt to anyone who donates blood, platelets, or plasma at LifeShare from Nov. 22-26. Blood center details can be found on their website.
