Clovis man sentenced for drug trafficking

LUBBOCK, Texas–Alejandro Astorga-Chavez has been sentenced to 15 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections following his conviction on multiple felony charges, including, trafficking a controlled substance, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer.

The charges stem from a May 12, 2025, incident in which Clovis Police Department officers responded in reports of a male who had discharged a firearm. During the investigation, officers identified Alejandro Astorga-Chavez as the suspect. A search warrant was obtained for the vehicle he had been driving. During the execution of the warrant, investigators located a hidden firearm beneath the vehicles center console, where 21 grams of methamphetamine and drug-trafficking paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
