National Guard and Border Patrol could deploy to New Orleans as early as next week

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Federal and state agencies are preparing for what could become a major enforcement operation in New Orleans, though officials have not yet confirmed when it will begin.

Media reports out of North Carolina indicate that roughly 200 Border Patrol agents currently stationed in Charlotte may be reassigned to New Orleans by the end of the week. The effort is reportedly part of an initiative referred to as “Operation Catahoula Crunch.”

The Department of Homeland Security has not confirmed the deployment. A DHS spokesperson told WGNO that the agency does “not discuss future or potential operations.”…
