Dr. James Gallant, a physician with a career spanning several decades, will retire soon. He began his work in healthcare in 1978 as a nurse’s aide at KSB. The professionalism of the staff influenced his decision to pursue medicine instead of engineering after taking an anatomy class at Sauk Valley Community College.
Dr. Gallant earned a biochemistry degree at UW-Madison and met his wife, Sue, during that time. He later received his medical degree from SIU School of Medicine. He completed a Family Medicine residency in Rockford and worked for two years at Crusader Clinic, serving patients in Rockford. He later moved to the emergency department, which allowed him to balance work and family responsibilities.
In 2000, Dr. Gallant took over Dr. Kwale’s practice at Edwards Clinic and assisted other local physicians. In 2004, KSB’s CEO recruited him to join the I.H.A.P. program, where he helped employees with complex health needs.
