‘A Place To Go Thanksgiving Dinner’ inspired by love and hardship

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — ‘A Place To Go Thanksgiving Dinner’ event is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, and Sky Patterson said she loves to cook some good ol’ soul food for one good reason.

“Because it touches the heart,” said Patterson, who serves as event coordinator for ‘A Place To Go Thanksgiving Dinner.’

The event is set for 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, at ‘In This Moment’, located at 707 South Polk. Patterson aims to touch hearts across Amarillo with the drive, which she told MyHighPlains.com was created to reduce the loneliness many feel during the holidays.“I started this event last year because on holidays I feel lonely, and I wanted to do something by giving back. And my way of giving back is cooking. I love to cook,” she said.

Patterson told MyHighPlains.com that she understands anyone who is struggling, because she knows firsthand the hardships life can bring.“I’ve been there twice, and it’s really not a good feeling. And I just pray for anyone in that situation to find their way,” she explained. Her friend Ashleigh Mote says that while the holidays can be joyous and a time to reflect on blessings, they also offer a chance to serve others who may not be as fortunate.“I think sometimes we get caught up in our everyday life,” said Mote, who serves as a volunteer for the event. “Our own individual problems, and we take certain things for granted, like having family to gather with, or having a roof over our heads. So it’s very humbling in a way, to just be able to serve and give back to the community and people who don’t have a family or don’t have a place to go.”

They tell MyHighPlains.com their favorite part of it all is the fellowship of one another.“The coming together, people coming together. It will be strangers, but we could be one big, happy family,” Patterson said.“It’s just heartwarming, just to see the different types of people they felt so loved and so empowered and just, you know, like they’re a person,” Mote added.Patterson noted that the public is invited to the event…
