SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Salt Lake City Councilwoman Eva Lopez Chavez says she did not endorse Ben McAdams in his bid for Utah’s newly formed District 1; rather only offered support for his run after the campaign posted her endorsement of him.
Lopez Chavez told ABC4 that she and McAdams had a conversation on November 8, 2025, where they discussed her support and an invitation to a campaign kickoff event, but she maintains that he never specifically asked for her endorsement.
“I said, ‘hey, I’m happy to help however I can. I support you.’ I can see how that’s assumed, but I’ve been on the other side, and you can’t assume these things,” Lopez Chavez said. “You’ve got to ask for consent. You’ve got to ask for permission to ask for a photo of that person’s choosing and whatever statement they consensually agree to. Can’t put words in people’s mouths.”…
