Community donates 500 turkeys during Thanksgiving drive

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Several local liquor stores offered gift cards over the weekend in exchange for customers’ donations of Thanksgiving turkeys, to help families in need.

Cheers Liquor Mart, Wine & Spirits, Veterans Liquor, Freedom Liquor, and Patriots Liquor gave people a $10 dollar gift card for every frozen bird they brought in on Saturday, Nov. 15. Across all five locations, customers donated around 500 frozen turkeys throughout the four-hour event, reaching even more families than the organizers originally planned.

“It feels really great,” said Robert McNeely, Owner and Manager of Cheers Liquor Mart. “The best part of it is seeing the community react, that’s really the best part about it, not so much necessarily for me personally, but it’s nice to look out and see the community helping the community. That really the best part about it.”

Organizers delivered all the donated turkeys to the Springs Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army, which will help get them out to the community…
