HONOLULU (KHON2) – A violent assault in Waikiki earlier this month has now turned into a murder case after the victim passed away from his injuries.
Waikiki assault victim dies; case upgraded to murder
The attack happened shortly after midnight on Nov. 8 along Lemon Road near the Waikiki Beachside Hostel. Police said the confrontation involved two men and investigators believe the 43-year-old suspect struck the 50-year-old visitor without any reason or warning.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries and remained in critical condition for several days. He died on Wednesday night, Nov. 12, leading detectives to reclassify the case from attempted murder to second-degree murder.
As of today, officials confirm that the suspect, identified as Ishmael Luavasa, has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Oahu Community Correctional Center without bail.
