BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Charitable giving is about people: People in need, and people with the hearts to respond to that need. Monday’s event at the intersection of L and 22nd streets celebrated those people but it recognized the power of place as well.
Compassion Corner, we call it — a parking lot right across the street from KGET that the Kern Community College District generously allows this television station to use as a gathering place for community giving.

Perhaps you’ve seen the activity there as you enter eastbound 178 from downtown Bakersfield. Dozens of charities have used it for fundraising and giveaway events over the years — the Community Action Partnership of Kern, the Open Door Network, Mendiburu Magic Foundation, the Volunteer Center, the Jamison Children’s Center. Too many to name.
And now this place of giving is a little more official…
