Alabama police chief out of job after contentious vote: ‘We would like to hear an explanation’

A Birmingham-area police chief appears to be out of a job after new town leaders refused to reappoint him.

The split vote to retain Tarrant Police Chief Wendell Major Monday night represented the first contentious vote between new mayor Tracie Threadford and members of the newly-seated city council.

The vote to reappoint Major failed on a 2-3-1 vote. Charles Johnson, Bruce Cooper and Valarie McClellan voted no, while Tommy Bryant and Threadford voted to approve. Deborah Matthews abstained…
