A domestic violence call in a Chino neighborhood escalated into an officer-involved shooting Sunday night, leaving a 29-year-old man hospitalized and prompting multiple investigations by local and county authorities, according to information released by the Chino Police Department.
Police say the incident began around 9 p.m. on Nov. 16, when a witness reported hearing a woman screaming for help inside a residence on the 16250 block of Homecoming Drive. The caller also told authorities that the suspected assailant might be armed with a knife.
When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect inside the home and confirmed he was holding what officials described as a large kitchen knife. According to police, officers attempted to calm the situation and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. The suspect refused, authorities said, and his behavior became increasingly aggressive toward both the victim and officers.
