Pedestrian hit, killed by Amtrak train in Gainesville

Police say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a commuter train in Gainesville Tuesday morning.

The Gainesville Police Department posted to social media at just after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, that the pedestrian was hit by an Amtrak train at the Athens Street rail crossing on the southeast side of the city. No other details about the incident, including the victim’s name, were released.

The incident left the area of Athens Street between Mill Street and Purina Drive closed for part of Tuesday morning’s commute, but police indicated that the roadway was reopened at 9:45 a.m…
