Conway, Horry County school officials meet over city’s planned $80M downtown redevelopment vision

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — Conway leaders are ready to move forward with a transformative $80 million downtown development plan and for a second time are asking Horry County Schools for support.

Conway’s council next month is expected to take a second vote approving an ordinance creating a “riverfront and downtown redevelopment project area” that would be paid for via using tax-increment financing, or TIF.

TIF districts work by enabling local governments to finance projects using revenues generated by the development — which Conway officials anticipate could be as much as $170.5 million over the next several decades…
