VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — It’s a mystery that’s 10 feet long and weighs nearly 1,000 pounds, as scientists at the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center are looking into what caused the death of a manatee that turned up over the weekend in Linkhorn Bay, not far from Laskin Road.
Neighbors say it’s unprecedented, but it’s not unusual for these giant mammals more accustomed to the warm waters off Florida’s Gulf and Atlantic coasts to be this far north.
