Students from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln are working with the Clyde Malone Community Center to support local families during Thanksgiving. For the past five years, members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity have helped organize an annual fundraiser to provide holiday meals for families in need. Last year, the campaign funded 1,200 turkeys for area families.
John Goodwin, CEO of the Malone Center, said the students’ involvement has helped the event grow. The fraternity aims to match last year’s total of 1,200 turkeys this year. Fundraising will continue until November 22. Any extra funds will be used to buy other Thanksgiving foods, such as cranberry sauce and green beans, as well as basic items like socks and underwear.
Marco Spinar, a sophomore economics major and Sigma Phi Epsilon’s vice president of programming, described the fraternity’s work on the project.
