Fire with small explosions torches home in Hillsboro, leaves 2 people displaced

HILLSBORO, Ore. (KPTV) – A Hillsboro home was badly damaged on Monday after a large fire and reports of small explosions coming from the garage.

Hillsboro Fire & Rescue says crews responded to a reported fire at the 5000 block of SE Patterson Street at around 10:14 a.m. on Monday.

Multiple callers told dispatchers they heard small explosions from the garage of the home, and a large plume of smoke was visible from as far away as the Hillsboro Airport area, according to HFR.

Firefighters eventually put out the heavy flames coming from the garage, and said no one was inside at the time of the fire.

The reported explosions that were reported to dispatcher are believed to have been small propane tanks used for BBQs and grills…
