AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson will host his annual Sweet Potato Giveaway this week, a holiday tradition ahead of Thanksgiving.
Here is this year’s distribution schedule:
- Thursday, Nov. 20: Good Shepherd Baptist Church (1714 Olive Road) beginning at 10 a.m.
- Friday, Nov. 21: Food Truck Family Fridays (4104 Windsor Spring Road) from 5–9 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 22: Everfaithful Missionary Baptist Church (314 Sand Bar Ferry Road) from 10 a.m.–noon
Each bag will also include a copy of Edna Mae’s Sweet Potato Pie Recipe.
“While others are blessing our community with turkeys, we’re adding in some Georgia grown sweet potatoes,” Johnson said. “Every family I know has sweet potato pies and yam casseroles… So, we bring them up from South Georgia by the truckload, and it’s been a hit. And it’s healthy, all Georgia grown.”…
