Suspect charged in Maple Avenue homicide

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A 35-year-old Birmingham man is now facing a charge of murder in connection to a deadly shooting on Maple Avenue over the weekend.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, officers with Birmingham Police Department discovered Richard Freeman shot to death in the 3500 block of Maple Avenue. Police said Freeman was involved in a verbal dispute with Emmanuel Turner that escalated into a shooting.

Jemison mayor says threat to protestors under investigation

On Tuesday, Turner was charged with murder in connection with Freeman’s death. He is now being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
