GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua and Gilchrist county have burn bans in place for the next week due to favorable conditions for wildfires.
Alachua County Fire Chief, Harold Theus, says the burn ban is in place due to dry conditions and the cool snap North Central Florida saw last week.
“When we respond to a brush fire, it’s important that we get quick action on that brush fire,” said Theus. “We’ve had with low humidity and high surface fuels, those fires spread very quick. You also usually have with that dry, some they have some wind associated with that dry air, so the fire spread happens very very fast.”…
