Map shows peak of Kentucky rut by region

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Deer in Kentucky are feeling romantic, and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources released a map highlighting the estimated peak of the rut in Kentucky.

On Monday, fish and wildlife released a map that used data collected each spring from road-killed does to determine the date of conception from the previous fall.

“This work takes effort — so huge shoutout to our staff and biologists for making this valuable information available to Kentucky hunters,” the department said on Facebook.

The map shows a variety of dates for the peak of the rut, scattered across seven physiographic regions.

A few of the peaks have already passed, mainly in the central and eastern regions, but in southern and western Kentucky, the peaks have yet to come…
