In 2018, Chip Hamm, a local attorney, acquired the Comfy Cow, a thriving ice cream company with multiple locations. Since then, however, the company has seen a significant decline. Hamm has gradually closed existing locations, citing that “you don’t need a large space for a small scoop shop,” but many believe that the ample seating was part of the appeal. The company also discontinued several specialty flavors that set them apart from competitors. Other unique features, such as the cow in front of the WP village location and the fame/shame wall for the scoop challenge, have also been removed. The final location in Westport Village is reportedly closing soon, marking a sad end to a local gem that once had a beautiful origin story.
